Murano and Burano - the hidden secrets of Venice

Tiny babies of Venice (awkward) - Murano and Burano. If you have enough time I suggest you to do visit these 2 mini islands near Venice. I say if you have time because they'll need 1 full day from you. It takes almost 1 hour to arrive to Murano and then 30 more minutes to Burano. Plus you'll need at least 3 hours to snap pictures in Burano. You'll feel happier just by looking at those colorful houses.

Murano is famous for it's glass art. Be prepared to pay lots of money if you are into these sorts of things. You will find glass in every shape, size, color and form. They also have a Glass Museum. We didn't pay as we bought online our Venezia Unica City Pass but I'll talk in another post about this. The art work you'll see there is amazing. Such tiny glass pieces with so many details. You'll be amazed.

I hope this picture with the chandelier shows how huge this thing was.

They care so much of their art and unique pieces that in some stores they actually don't allow you to snap pictures or handle the pieces. Some of them can be very expensive, thousand of euros. I say it's a nice tiny island to visit and see the artwork that is made from people's hands and see what patience can accomplish.

Burano. All I can say is that I smiled so much my jaw hurt. I may be easily influenced or something but I genuinely felt happy just by looking and those houses. There is a story behind these colorful houses. It's said that the fishermen used to paint the house in bright and bold colors to be able to distinguish them and see them through the fog. You can still see that one of the main occupation is fishing. And people really care for the reputation of the island because they keep repainting the houses almost each year. I'm going to leave you with some pictures. If they won't make you smile, then I don't know what will.
