Travel photography - phone or DSLR?
I love taking pictures. I discovered this love probably around the age of 12 years old. I had a friend and I used to photograph her every day for years. Now when it comes to travel I usually take lots of pictures. By lots I mean thousands. By the way, I am in no way a professional photographer or something. I just enjoy snapping pictures of what I consider beautiful. Pictures for me are the embodiment of memories.
Travel photography - I have a Samsung and let me tell you it's the best. I use the pro mode when I need it. That is usually for sunsets, sunrise or when I want to change up the vibe of the shot. Advice alert below!
I think my best advice when it comes to smartphone photography is MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CAMERA CLEAN. You have no idea how many times I see pictures taken with S7, S8, iPhone 8, iPhone 7 and I can actually see the fingerprint on the camera. I HATE it. So if you ever complain that your phone doesn't take good pictures take a look at the camera and see if it's clean first.
I don't take my camera everywhere I go. It's heavy. But when I do take it I try to make it count. Phones nowadays are sooo good. So good that you don't even need a camera if you have no idea how to set it up properly. If you buy a DSLR and use it on auto mode, better save the money and do something else with them. Go on a trip with those money and photograph everything with your phone. You don't have to be a professional to use 3 main settings on a camera but if you are not willing to learn the basics I think you should stick with your phone. For example I think phones are a little bit limited when it comes to night photography. The picture below was taken with the camera.
Also if your phone has the pro mode (which most of them have if you own a smartphone) try and play with that first. And see how it feels and if you like it. If you can get the hang of that maybe you can start thinking about buying a camera. I still regret not taking my camera on our trip to Venice, Milan, Genoa and Cinque Terre.
In the end it's up to you but my advice is to stick with your phone if you are not that much into cameras and learning about them. What are your favorite devices for taking pictures?
