Vatican - the historical and architectural gem of Rome
Vatican is beautiful. It's a pity to visit Rome and not dedicate some time for this gem. Actually a whole full day but if you cannot do that, at least a few hours of your time. We were lucky enough to be able to dedicate a full day to visit the Vatican. We took the metro and got down at Ottaviano station. From here you just take a 7 to 10 minutes walk (depends on how fast your pace is) and you arrive at the mighty Vatican.
I suggest you to go early in the morning if you don't wanna wait in line for too long. We arrived around 9 AM and it was perfect. It was also in October so probably in July arriving at 9 AM might be too late. We didn't bought skip-the-line passes because it was not needed but you can do that if you want. If I remember well the price is around 15 euros or something like this.
The ticket for the museums of Vatican is around 17 euros. The most memorable part of the museums is the Sistine Chapel. No matter which way you go or order you want to visit the parts of the museums, the Sistine Chapel will be the last one so be patient. But it is so worth it. Everything inside the museums is stunning. Architecture, paintings and details at their finest.
I don't have pictures with the Sistine Chapel because they didn't allowed pictures but all I can tell you is that it is stunning. I didn't want to leave that room. You can also visit the Vatican gardens but we didn't bought tickets for them but from what we were able to see from outside they are lovely.
You should know that on the last day Sunday of the month the entrance to the museums is free. But be prepared for big lines. Also if you are a student or under 6 years old you will have some reductions on the price. You can also book your ticket online if you want to.
You can also go up on the cupola and will see the whole panorama of Rome. We paid 8 euros to go up on the stairs (it's more if you take the lift) but I can tell you that these were the best money we spent during our whole trip. Besides the ones for food but that is another story. You need to know that the trip up on those stairs is not for the claustrophobic people. The spaces are really tight and even tilted. When I say tight I mean there was room for only 1 person to walk in some places. But if you have the courage to do it, it will be worth it.
We were also lucky enough and we got up exactly during the golden hour. And it was amazing. When I'll go back to Rome, I am going to go once again up there just to see this view again.
