When and why to visit Venice
I am the type of person that probably likes every place in this world. When I'll find a place I don't like I am going to let you know. Hopefully that will be never.
When to visit Venice?
We were in Venice mid October for 4 days. And it was CROWDED. I didn't expected it to be that crowded. It didn't bother me or something it's just that Venice is one of those cities that is forever crowded.
So taking into consideration that even in October it was crowded I would definitely avoid the summer months. It's too hot, too crowded for me. So I would suggest you to visit Venice in late fall and spring. The weather is perfect and you have room to walk. You might see some rain but who cares? Get yourself an umbrella and just go visit. The Venice Carnival is an amazing time to visit as well. It's between late January and beginning of February. Everyone wears masks and stuff.
Why you should visit Venice?
1. Because it's different. It is built on water. I might be strange but I find that to be really interesting.
2. It has gondolas. 80 euros for 1 ride but I think it's worth it. You might even be lucky and have the man riding the gondola singing. Thinking back now I actually regret that we didn't took one. Next time for sure. The upside of this is that you can share the ride if you want and travel with friends. 4 or even 6 people can stay in 1 gondola so when you split the cost it's actually not that bad.
3. You can see amazing sunsets from the Rialto Bridge.
4. It can be affordable. If you book ahead 1 to 3 months the prices can be even less than 300 euros for airplane tickets plus accommodation for 2 people. You can also check out the post where I give some advice on how to save money while in Venice.
5. You have so many things to visit. Doge's Palace, Murano, Burano, Rialto bridge, the Casino, the sculpture of hands rising from the water are just a tiny piece of what you can see.
6. They make great pasta. I cannot say enough about Dal Moro's Fresh Pasta to Go. Amazing. We also ate at ristorante Canal Grande. Great pasta there too. It is located right next to Rialto bridge.
