Where to stay in Rome
Rome has plenty of options to choose from when it comes to accommodation. So here is a list with a few hotels that I recommend and the area where you can stay. We stayed at hotel Parker which is a 3 star hotel close to Termini station. Room was clean with a comfortable bed and for breakfast they offered plenty of options. Other good hotels are Espana, Kent, Alexis, Camelia and Pyramid. I recommend you to stay around Termini station but keep in mind one thing about this place - it is noisy. Although we weren't bothered at all about this aspect, take this into consideration if you are a light sleeper.
Around Termini there are plenty hotels from which you can choose and usually the prices are between 40 and 60 euros per double room for 1 night. With breakfast included most of the times which is not bad at all. Of course if you want to stay in luxurious hotels then this post is not for you.
From Termini station you can pretty much get to every known place in Rome within 10-30 minutes of walking. You have Colosseum, Boca della Verita and Roman Forum with Palatine Hill which are approximately 25 minutes away from hotel Parker. Even closer if you are right next to Termini. Also you can take the metro but keep it mind that their metro line doesn't reach some of the attractions like Pantheon, piazza Navona or the Trevi Fountain. We only took the metro to reach the Vatican because we needed to arrive as early as possible so having to walk there would have taken us at least 1 hour if not more. Instead with the metro in approximately 15 minutes we were there.

You can also stay near the Vatican but keep in mind that the prices are a little bit higher so if you are on a budget better stick with Termini station. The only down side of Termini area is that as every station in this world you'll find people sleeping on the street. But we didn't feel in danger at all.
